Glossary

Medium of instruction is the language a school teaches in.

Medium of instruction is the main language in which a school teaches its subjects and conducts examinations — commonly English, Hindi or a state language. A school may be described as English-medium or regional-medium accordingly, and some run more than one medium in parallel sections. NEP 2020 encourages mother-tongue or regional-language instruction in the early grades.

In Indian schools

Medium is a defining attribute parents filter on at admission, and schools often run separate sections or batches by medium. RaivatEdu can hold the medium on the student record and keep those sections as distinct batches, so enrollment and attendance stay clean.

Students & batchesKeep medium-wise sections as clean, separate batches — see students and batches.
